Singin' in the Rain is more than a romance. It is actually about the invention of talkies (movies with sound). This gives some good insight into the shift that happened in the movie industry at the time. The movie shows us the struggle of one of the industry's most popular acting duos: Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont (completely fictional people, not actual Hollywood stars). Lina is a good actress, but the problem is her voice. When the studio wants to make a movie full of speaking and singing, Lina doesn't understand why she is no longer suitable for the part. Meanwhile, Don has met and begun to fall for Kathy Selden, a stage actress. The two of them, along with the studios musician (and Don's best friend), Cosmo Brown, devise a plan to record Kathy's voice for the parts instead. You can see what problems might come from that. Things I remember thinking during this movie: Kathy and Don fell in love ridiculously fast. Cosmo's dance number was crazy (in a good way)....
