Singin' in the Rain

Singin' in the Rain is more than a romance. It is actually about the invention of talkies (movies with sound). This gives some good insight into the shift that happened in the movie industry at the time. The movie shows us the struggle of one of the industry's most popular acting duos: Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont (completely fictional people, not actual Hollywood stars). Lina is a good actress, but the problem is her voice. When the studio wants to make a movie full of speaking and singing, Lina doesn't understand why she is no longer suitable for the part. Meanwhile, Don has met and begun to fall for Kathy Selden, a stage actress. The two of them, along with the studios musician (and Don's best friend), Cosmo Brown, devise a plan to record Kathy's voice for the parts instead. You can see what problems might come from that.
Things I remember thinking during this movie:
Kathy and Don fell in love ridiculously fast.
Cosmo's dance number was crazy (in a good way).
Movies these days need more music and dancing like the stuff in this movie. Seriously, these numbers are so good.
Don's fantasy about the movie he wanted to make (or whatever that was) didn't really fit with the rest of the movie and it confused me.
I'm sure there were more, but I think you get the overall message.
I have to say that one other really neat thing about this movie is that it can still be so enjoyable even though it contains none of the swearing, violence, and sec of modern movies. And the story isn't mainly focussed on the romance/relationship...it's really about people making new forms of entertainment.
It's definitely a feel good movie. Somewhat predictable, but made interesting by all of the musical numbers. Please watch and sing along; you won't regret it!
